Here's what: June 26

It's been a long, short week. Does that make sense? No, just me? So much has gone on, but at the same time today is my Friday. Yay. So anywho...Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... We all know I love any Olympic sport. Today the U.S. plays world #2 Germany in what could be their final match of the 2014 World Cup. And apparently it is raining so hard where they are playing in Brazil that the U.S. team's family and friends have decided not to make the trek to the stadium as it is too treacherous outside. There are reports of up to two feet of standing water in the streets! The U.S. and Germany have four points apiece and Portugal and Ghana each have one point heading into the final match of the group stage.  The scenarios to advance vary wildly . Moving into a new place is totally an excuse to redecorate. Not that I want to refurnish my entire apartment, but it will be fin to switch things up.  I saw this on pinterest (duh), its just fa

News and Notes

I signed a lease! And I'm having some serious anxiety about it. I don't have any issues with moving, clearly. I'm practically a professional mover. But I love my current place and don't really want to leave it. But the new place is much more practical and convenient - closer to work, closer to run, a great gym, lots of closet space, less money, etc. For those of you keeping track, it was #3 on my list. I looked at three complexes last week (not the three I blogged about) and settled on this one. It was the first one I had seen. The second one, while right next to one of my favorite restaurants (Local Foods), was the most expensive but just looked old. The third one was amazing. The apartment itself was huge and updated. But it took me 25 minutes to get there and as I was being shown around they kept mentioning fees that would be added onto the rent. No go. After I signed the lease someone told me they thought it wasn't a good idea...they knew someone wh

Sriracha

I don't even like spicy food. So why have I been scouring pinterest looking for recipes in which to use my new favorite condiment - sriracha? I've already made this chicken salad...and it was pretty damn good. New recipes on my list of things I want to make... Sriracha-Miso Salmon Mix 2 tsp. Sriracha, 1 Tbsp. miso, and 1 Tbsp. olive oil. Spread on four 4-oz. salmon fillets. Broil until browned and cooked through, about 3 minutes. Sriracha Egg Salad Mix chopped hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, pickle relish, and Sriracha. Sriracha Brussels Sprouts Mix Sriracha, honey, and fresh lime juice to taste; drizzle over roasted brussels sprouts. And it's a good thing all of these recipes are relatively healthy...bc I haven't run in a week! A week! What is wrong with me? The days just got away from me, there were other things going on or it was just too hot. So. Many. Excuses. I keep talking about how I want to get faster and run longer and I'm not running

Trying to get faster...and other Friday musings

I've mentioned her before, but Danica over at chicrunner.com did a post yesterday about how she went from running 9:30s last year to 7:45s this year. I think I need to follow her tips. Her race splits for her latest marathon (where she qualified for Boston!) were between 7:17 and 9:42 (she only had 3 miles that were over 9 minute pace). That. is. ridiculous. to me. And I would love to be able to run like that, not for a marathon - bc I don't think I will run one - but for my next half. Rules to run by: 1. run less but with more quality miles. 2. run with a group 3. run a warm up and cool down 4. do tempo runs/speed work 5. don't give up and push yourself during every workout For her full post, click here . Image via chicrunner.com ...she always has the best running photos On a completely unrelated note, I think I'm going to start looking at apartments today at lunch. I heard back from the agent at umovefree.com and she got me a list of rental rates for

Here's what: June 19

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... Like I need an excuse for a cheese plate... I really want to throw a dinner party. Can it be considered a dinner party if it's only four people? Maybe I could squeeze in for six, but my table is pretty small. Anywho...I love to cook (sometimes I'm good at it) and have people over, I just don't do it very often. It looks a little different from the last pics I put up... I've never done an apartment tour since I moved into this place 10 months ago. With everything that happened, I just kind of forgot. Maybe I should get one in before I have to leave! I remember skyping with some family over the holidays and my cousin was like - that's your apartment? It's awesome! I absolutely love this dress. But where on earth would I wear it? Bonus item...I've been thinking about social media a lot this week. How much do you think is too much to share with people you've never met befo

I need a vacation

It's summer time. And that means vacations. Finally. For about seven years I was never able to take a real vacation in the summer bc that was always my busiest time of the year work-wise (track season is April - September). But now that my busy time doesn't start until October, I want to go somewhere! Now I just have to figure out where. And with who. We've been talking about Mexico and cruises and New Orleans...I mean, I would love to pick all three but I didn't just win the lottery. Day/weekend trips would be cool too...Galveston, San Antonio, I have no idea what else is in driving distance. Where else? Where should I go? Cruise - never been Galveston - I had so much fun the last time I was there, but the hangover was wicked. New Orleans - never been Riviera Maya - love it, how can you go wrong with an all-inclusive? San Antonio - I went for a weekend in college for a wedding, doesn't count

Oh Monday

#sotrue Mondays are the worst. Check back tomorrow for an actual blog post :) I promise, I'll have something for you.

Do I really have to move again?

I am (impatiently) waiting to hear from my apartment complex what my rent will be if I renew my lease at the end of August. I think they're going to raise my rent. A lot. There is no other one bedroom within $300 of what I'm paying right now. I mean, I don't think it's going to go up that much, but I still think it's going to go up. So I have been obsessively looking at apartments online for the last few weeks. Even though I wouldn't be moving for 60+ days. K told me about this site - umovefree.com - that hopefully I can find a place through. Their service is free, and every client that uses UMoveFree to find their new apartment is also offered up to a Free Move or $200 Rebate depending on how much your rent is. This would be amazing bc I don't want to have to ask people to help me move again. I also think I may look for a cheaper option and hopefully one that is closer to work. Those of you not in Houston won't get this, but I would love to l

Houston Heights 5K

This past Saturday we ran the Houston Heights 5K. Since the Nike Women's race I have been trying to concentrate on building up my speed. Instead of doing the longer runs I would do for a half, I ran no more than 5 miles and did a few speed workouts too. It was going really well, but my runs over the past few weeks could have been better. it is impossible to look good in running photos...unless you are Kara Goucher. Fast forward to the start of the race on Saturday. It was hot. And humid. What else should I expect in Houston in June? There were a lot more people at the start then I remembered from last year. I started out with E and there was a lot of bobbing and weaving when the gun went off. It was an out and back course and I stuck with E until the turnaround. She's been having some issues with the foot where she had surgery, so when she told me to go on without her I checked to make sure she was really ok and then I bypassed the water stop and tried to turn it up a n
