Here's what: June 27

It's been a long week so far. I've been getting up and running before work every morning! But anyway...here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week. I have been seriously obsessed with this loft since I found out. I love the bright pink against the pale, well, everything else. And I would seriously kill for that pink fridge. I found something similar on West Elm. For $2,000. D told me that our parents have given us free reign to update the upstairs of their beach house, which may or may not be true. The upstairs and downstairs are basically set up like two seperate apartments. Upstairs has two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and living. But while I am absolutely in love with this bathroom it's probably not possible. This is two things that I'm grouping together bc I love this picture. Today is my favorite nephew's 2nd birthday. He might be the cutest thing ever. And I'm so excited that I'm getting a visitor next week. Dj will be her

The winner

I found an apartment. Signed the lease already and everything. I don't move in until August 31 though. Which means I have plenty of time to plan and over-plan and look at new things to buy. I went to see the Marquis Downtown on Friday afternoon and dragged K along with me. Heading in I didn't think I would take it. I thought the rent was at my ceiling and that parking was not included. Turns out parking is included. And I won't find any other place in this price range downtown. The guy who showed me the apartment told me he the apartment wouldn't last through the weekend - yes, I know that's his job - and that if I wanted it, I needed to sign the lease right away. But he did have a point, this place is $200+ less than every other place yet in the building. It's a one bedroom, loft style, 776 square feet and pretty cool looking if I do say so myself. (I will not have a red wall or that ugly furniture.) My inspiration for the new place... I would kill fo

Weekend recap

It was another boring weekend in H-town. But let's jump back to lunch on Thursday first. OMG. K and I went to Sweet Paris Creperie and it was A-mazing.I had a croque madam - eggs, gruyere cheese, smoked ham and bechamel sauce - and we split a nutella crepe with strawberries. The USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships were this weekend, so a lot of time was spent on twitter, usatf.tv and watching the shows on TV. Overall it looked like a great meet, but Des Moines has a ways to go if they want be on the same level as Eugene and host an Olympic Trials. Tried to hit the pool again on Saturday and lasted 90 minutes before I got too hot and went back inside. Sunday was super exciting. I slept in, watched some TV and then met up with one of my volunteers for mani/pedis. But, but, but...this morning I went for a run BEFORE work Hell may have officially frozen over. Now I have to make it through the work day.

First day of Summer?

Today is officially the first day of summer! Even though it's been in the 90s here for what feels like forever. Looking forward to the beach weekend I have planned for July!  AND I officially signed a lease for a new apartment! In a whole new section of town! Details to come...

Here's what: June 20

So before I even get into it...K and I went to the gym last night. I had gotten home from work and was on the couch when she text me to see if I wanted to meet her there. Perfect, just the motivation I needed. So we made our way through three miles on the treadmill. And when we were done promptly decided to go to Chuy's for dinner. Oops. They cancel each other out right? So anyway...here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... Deb just forwarded me this post on the Everygirl - Joanna Reuland of The San Francisco Marathon . It's a profile on the 26 yr old marketing director for the San Francisco Marathon. I may have to try to recruit her for me team! I finally signed up for Netflix. I may only last through my one month free trial, but in the meantime I will probably watch A LOT of TV and movies. There's so so much to choose from, but then at the same time there's not. I was playing on my mobile app version last night and couldn't find Frie

Apartment hunting

I've been in H-town for almost 10 months now. I can't believe it's been that long! Sometimes it feels like I've been here forever, sometimes it feels like a few weeks. Either way, it's time to start thinking about finding a new apartment. When I first found out I was moving here I was in London. And that I would be moving to Houston within two weeks of returning. I would have to pack up my apartment in CT, move everything to Philly, decide what could fit in my two-door Honda and drive to TX. So I basically had to find a place to live while I was in another country. And it wasn't easy. And Houston wasn't in the price range that I expected it to be. I thought it would be cheaper than Ct. Not so much. And based on the website of the place I chose and the pictures they put in their gallery, and not knowing anything about the area, I thought it was much closer to this one main shopping center that it actually is. You know, the one with Apple, Sprinkles, Centr

Weekend recap

Not much to say. Sure I had a three day weekend, but I was sick for most/all of it. At some point on Friday I dragged myself to Target and the grocery store. And bought myself some pretty flowers. I tried to sit out by the pool in the afternoon, but it was so damn hot I only lasted an hour. Me! ridiculous. After that I didn't leave the house much. Or at all. I did read Revenge Wears Prada, the sequel to the Devil Wears Prada. I wasn't that impressed. 300 pages leading up to the climax and then 20 pages finishing off the book. I like more explanation than that. I was supposed to volunteer on Saturday morning from 5:30-9am. And I missed it. Couldn't get to sleep Friday night until 2am and completely missed my alarm. Fail.  I finally signed up for netflix streaming in an effort to watch all of Dexter before it's last season. Turns out Dexter is only available on dvd through netflix. Fail. Maybe I could watch it all during the 1-month free dvd trial. I'll thin

Happy Friday

Excited it's one of my Friday's off! Not excited I have a little bit of work to do. Have I mentioned its already summer here? I went out to Target at 11ish this morning and it was already 88, feels like 97. Whoa. That's hot. And the high today is supposed to be 96. So what's that gonna feel like? At some point, I'm hoping to get out to the pool today. But I'm thinking I might melt. Oh oh oh...I got an iPhone 5 last night. For free. Target paid me $100 after my trade-in. How awesome is that? Right now they are offering a $50 coupon if you trade in your phone, the 5 was on sale for $150 and my iPhone 4s was worth $200. Yay me! Now it's time to relax, read a book by the pool, maybe go to Central Market later. And do almost nothing this weekend. Except volunteer tomorrow morning at a packet-pickup...at 5:30am!! Yikes.

Here's what: June 13

I think I said this last week too, but I have been so busy at work. It's looking like things might calm down next week. And we're still in our "summer schedule" so I have a three day weekend! So here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week. I think I'm going to do this two day cleanse, starting tomorrow. I had been eating pretty healthy until this week. After our press conference on Tuesday I had cookies for lunch and sushi and prosecco for dinner. And then yesterday I had a healthy lunch but I could not stop snacking all day and then met G for a BBQ dinner. Not my best week. Oh and did I mention the two donuts for breakfast today? Ya, so I need to kick start my way back into healthy eating. I've done this one before. It's a decent amount of food and pretty easy to follow. I'm back on the tattoo bandwagon. I want another one (sorry mom). I have a goal in mind that, if I reach this summer, I might allow myself another tattoo.

Busy busy

It's been a busy past few weeks in the office and I think I have one more week to go before it calms down. Last week was National Running Day, today we announce the new courses for the marathon and half marathon moving forward and it looks like there might be another announcement next week. After that, it should calm down for a little while. Just in time for my cousin to come in to town to visit. And a holiday weekend. I'm currently trying to come up with things do do for the fourth of July weekend. I've heard about Freedom over Texas and Philly is here to play the Dynamo that weekend, but I still need some other things to do. Food, drinking and shopping are always options. And possibly a 5k. Maybe we can find this place.

Weekend Recap

My weekend started off with something I didn't see coming. I let E talk me into seeing The Purge. You know, the Ethan Hawke movie set in 2022 where there's no unemployment and very little crime bc one night a year ALL crime is legal. It was kinda disturbing but an ok movie. At least I didn't have any nightmares. I also told E that I wanted to run Saturday morning and she should text me if she wanted to go. It gets hot here early so the plan was to run at 7am. I did not set an alarm, but E text me at 6am to tell me she wanted to go. It's a good thing she tagged me in a facebook post 30 mins later because I had fallen back asleep and it woke me up. I jumped out of bed, brushed my teeth, changed my clothes and ran out the door. The goal was one lap around the park. It was E's first run back after foot surgery. It was slow going but we made it and then went for a much-needed coffee and a trip to My Fit Foods. After a quick workout at the gym, I went to the pool for

Here's what: June 6

It's been such a busy week and it's not over yet. Here's what I'm obsessed with this week. Yesterday was National Running Day and the opening of our lottery registration. It was quite the busy day. Interviews scheduled out at the park in the morning, a book signing with Meb Keflezighi (three-time Olympian, 2004 Olympic silver medalist who won the Olympic Trials here in Houston in 2012) and a huge event out at the park in the evening. Lots of photos coming soon. I was so tired when I got home last night, at 11pm, that I didn't even turn on my computer or the tv. And that's all I've got this week. It took me eightish hours to complete this post. In all honesty, I started it early this morning and then got to work and got busy and just realized that I never posted anything. Oops. I'll try harder tomorrow.

Weekend recap

Oh four day weekend. How I will miss you. There was a lot of laziness around. And some work, because it's not sports if you don't have to work on your days off. I had big plans for Thursday, but I ended up working off and on until 2pm. So I went out to the pool for a bit when I was finally done. After 20 minutes, it started to rain. I was able to go back out for about an hour and then I went to the gym! I get excited when I actually follow through on going. K text me Friday morning to drag me out for a run at the Park. I needed it. But boy was it hot and humid. We got there at 9:30am and it was in the low 80s with some pretty high humidity. The breakfast tacos definitely made up for it. Food makes everything better. Then we went and picked up our race packets for Saturday's 5k. I tried really hard to contain myself, packet pickup was in a running retail store, and only bought one sports bra. Did I do anything else on Friday? Nothing really, but I did pick up some nice
