I'm home!

Time for a little vacation!

Here's what: March 28

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... My flight home is tomorrow at 7:00am. It's time to start thinking about what I'm going to pack. I originally wanted to carry on (mainly bc I don't get free bags anymore), but now I don't even feel like worrying about it. I'm just going to throw a bunch of stuff in a suitcase and hope it all works out. I will be spending nine whole days with my twin. I hope we don't kill each other. (Love you! mean it!) A whole week of nothing. Hopefully some sleeping on, time with the fam, the ever-popular food tour of Delco. I'm looking forward to it.

Countdown continues

We're getting so close! 2 - days until I leave for home 3 - days until our Girls Night In party 4 - days until Easter 7 - days until our birthday!! So I made a little (slightly outrageous and unrealistic) wish list.A girl can dream. 1. Friends: the complete series 2. Argo 3. Les Mis 4. Time to drink champagne ! I love this print 5. Zero Dark Thirty 6. Skyfall 7. The nike studio wrap ...completely unnecessary, but very cool. 8. What girl doesn't want a mani/pedi? 8. In love with this gold Michael Kors watch 9. The stainless steel band for my Michele watch. swoon. 10. I've been looking for a good crossbody bag and this Marc Jacobs Preppy might be it. 11. Still want that tempur-pedic pillow ! 12. Lululemon arm warmer s - could have used you in Dallas last weekend. Follow my blog with Bloglovin +

Rock n Roll Dallas recap

We arrived in late Dallas Friday afternoon. When we had left Houston, it was a balmy 87 and four hours later when we stepped out of the car in Dallas is was 53! Talk about a temperature drop. Saturday we went over to expo to get registered and pick up our bibs. The expo was pretty cool, lots to look at, but it took a hot minute to figure out how to get out of there which maybe was the point. By the time we went to dinner on Saturday everybody was a little concerned about the weather for Sunday's race.  They were saying it was supposed to be about 41 at the start with winds at 25-30 miles per hour and gusting to 45mph! E and A wanted to wear long sleeves while K was still talking about running in a singlet. I was on the fence. I didn't have any throw away clothes with me so if I wore a long sleeve top I would have to keep it on the whole time. In the end I stuck with my normal short sleeves and gloves. Sleep Saturday night was fitful and by the time the alarm went off I w

Houston we have a problem

Cliche, I know. But I'm in that kind of mood. I was going to write my Dallas recap but it can wait. We got home from Dallas around 4pm on Sunday and I got in my car at E's to drive home. That's when this happened.   And it is not my fault! I am so not happy right now. Some 23 year old girl wasn't paying attention in the parking garage and cut the corner and ran right into me! And I was stopped! ugh. So this morning I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with insurance companies, first mine and then hers. And it sounds like I can't get my car fixed until they determine fault. Sweet. I love driving around with it looking like this.  **Update - the other insurance company just admitted their driver was at fault! Yay!!**

Happy Friday

Aren't you just so happy the weekend starts after work today? We leave for Dallas today. My second half marathon since I started running again in late January. I think I have everything I need. I packed a little last night and the rest this morning. And I'm going to run by the Sports Authority at lunch. I know for sure I've got my outfit for Sunday, my running shoes and my wallet. Anything else left behind isn't that important. Let's do this.

Here's what: March 21

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... The Girls Night In that Deb and I are planning for when I'm home. We're slightly obsessed and have a whole private pinterest board to prove it. Now if only our family would actually respond to invite we sent out... I know I've included this race in the past, but now that it is this weekend I am starting to freak out. My "training" since running Austin has been close to nonexistent, much like K's, and E ended up with a minor stress fracture (!) but is going to run it anyway. Hopefully A will keep as all going. And the twins. Our birthday is in 13 days and I will be home for it! There are  plans to be made.

Chiro

So for as long as I can remember, even back to when I was living in CT, I would wake up in the morning with a very stiff neck. It hurt. A lot. And finally I had had enough. I should do something about this. So I turned to my friend google and found a local sports chiropractor online. I like for my doctors to have some sort of athletic-type background. I know I'm not an athlete anymore but I am still active and it's what I know. Before I called to make an appointment, I went to check with some girls at work to see if anyone had ever been before. K said that she had and that her friend was a chiropractor and I should visit her. So I called last week to make the appointment and was shocked when the receptionist asked if I could come in that day at 4:00pm. Well that turned out too good to be true. I showed up, got checked in, the nurse weighed me and went to take my blood pressure before asking me what I was in for. Chiropractor was apparently not the answer she was looking f

Weekend recap

Who doesn't love a three-day weekend? I certainly do. Friday was hot yoga followed by reading outside. It was a beautiful day. I met E at My Fit Foods just after lunch time. We decided to do a five day challenge (we did the 21 day back in November) for a multitude of reasons. We both want to get back to eating healthier and we both have things we want to lose weight for. For me - my family decided they want to have professional family photos taken while I'm home. Not much else got done on Friday. More reading and some bad tv. Saturday was all about food. I met E and A for an 11 mile long run. That nobody really wanted to do. And let me tell you, it was a loooong run. I think the only reason I do long runs is for the brunch afterwards. We went to Max's Wine Dive and it was ah-mazing. I had the eggs Max, E had the bacon bacon omelet and we split a half order of the creme brulee french toast. Clearly the mff challenge hadn't started yet. After a nap and some shoppi

Cheers to the weekend

It's finally happened...out spring schedule has started, meaning I get every other Friday off! Starting today!! I started out my day off with a 90 minute hot yoga class. Oh boy was it hot. And on a completely empty stomach? Killer. No real plans for the rest of the day. It's a beauty - supposed to be 77 and sunny - so I may just sit outside and read a book. Tomorrow am is a long run and then, again, no other plans. Except brunch. it's the only reason I like long run Saturday :)

Here's what: March 14

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... I honestly can not remember the last time I woke up in the morning and did not have a stiff neck. Literally, it's been happening since some time when I was in Stamford I think. This is not normal. I need to fix this. So today I am going to the chiropractor (a friend of a friend) and hopefully she can help me. I also want to get one of these tempur-pedic pillows . $79 seems like a lot for a pillow, but if it helps it is probably worth it. I'm fairly certain Rosetta Stone has made the list before. But I still really want it. Right now they are doing a facebook offer and the sets are 30% off. Now this stuff almost never goes on sale. So this is a pretty good deal. And they do Payment plans? I didn't need to know that. One of my cousins has a fitbit and it sounds pretty cool. It tracks everything - steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed and sleep cycle. This could be pretty helpful. It automa

Countdowns

I've got a lot going on in the next three weeks...and I'm looking forward to almost all of it! Even if I'm not ready to run the half in Dallas, I am excited just to go to Dallas bc it's somewhere I've never been before. And then after that it's only a few short days until I go home to hang out with the fam for Easter and mine and Deb's birthday. 2:   workdays to go until my weekend starts 11: days until the Rock 'n' Roll Dallas Half Marathon 16: days until I leave for Philly 17: days until our girls night in party at Deb's 18: days until Easter - I love family holidays 20: days until mine and Deb's bday - I might make myself this cake...

Bayou City Classic 10k

Saturday morning started off nice and early with my alarm going off at 6:00am. Now, if you know me, you know I am not a morning person. But I was picking K up at 6:30 to make it to E's house by 7:00 so that we could walk downtown to the start of the Bayou City Classic. We made it downtown with minutes to spare and before we knew it, it was 8:00am and time for the 10k. And much like Austin, I just wasn't feeling it. The Austin half was three weeks ago and besides this 10k race I think I only ran about four times. Oops. Two weeks left before my next half, I really should get to running. Back to the 10k, the gun went off and we started from the back of the pack. The first mile-ish was in downtown and it was pretty crowded running on the streets. But once we hit Allen Parkway it opened up a bit. Have I mentioned yet that it was in the 60s with really high humidity? Always great weather for running. Not. I could handle the temps but that kind of humidity just sucks the lif

Back at it

I went to my first hot yoga class in Houston last night. It was an experience, but it always is. I love to sweat. The more I sweat the more I feel I accomplished something. Spending an entire class in a room dripping with sweat feels like quite an accomplishment. This was not bikram yoga (26 postures in a specific order), but it was similar and I thought the class was easy to follow along. I signed up for the 30 days for $30 deals and I'm going to try and go at least three times a week. Especially since I will be out of town at the end of the month. Things to take with you to hot yoga: yoga mat towel (yoga specific or just a bath towel) hand towel or wash cloth (so you can wipe off during class) water dry shirt If I decide to keep going after the 30 days I'll think about getting a new yoga mat. I've had my current one for at least seven years I think. Right now I'm liking this towel mat from lululemon. You can put it in the washing machine! Tomorro

Here's what: March 7

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week: It's time to go back to yoga, hot yoga specifically. I miss it, I hope it will help my aches and I found a really good deal for a place not far from my apartment. Deb and I both love this. Maybe I will by this for her for our birthday. Shhh I am over my current apartment complex. It's not in a good area for running. The people who live above me are elephants with a surround sound system. Out "gated" entry is always broken. And the management team is not the best. How awesome does the above floor plan look? Bedroom is small but the rest is great. The community looks nice too. It's also a few hundred over what I want to spend, but whatever. I wish I had signed a shorter lease and could move out sooner. Maybe if I give notice, there's no penalty? Ya, right.

Going home

I'm going home! Family time It was a little bit of a rash decision. I got it stuck in my head this weekend that maybe I would take a trip home around my birthday. I have the day off on April 5 anyway. And then I realized the weekend before is Easter so maybe a longer trip. And my vacation is use or lose by May anyway. I talked to my mom and she was on board. I made sure that I could stay with Deb and possibly use her truck. And then after work on Monday I decided I just had to do it. I need a break. I'm ready for some time with the family. And being home for Easter and our birthday will be nice. My family does holidays big so that will be fun. This would be a fun bday cake Now it's time to start planning. We have to plan a birthday night (it falls on a Weds). Somebody said we should do a girls night so we might either do that at Deb's or go out. I might need to run into the city to pick up my great grandfather's naturalization record. What else shou

One of those days

Sorry for the (lack of) post, I'm just not feeling it. If I wrote what I was actually feeling today, it would probably get me in trouble. Back tomorrow.

Weekend recap

There's nothing like being woken up on a Saturday morning by your 20-month-old nephew face-timing you. After a six hour happy hour the night before. He's lucky he is so cute. The rest of the day was spent finishing one book and starting another. With a trip to target thrown in there somewhere. Sunday I finally got out of Houston and drove down to Galveston. I'm not sure what I expected but there was not as much to do there as I thought there would be. I wandered up and down the Strand for a while, going in most of the stores. My mom would find a lot of stuff for their shore house there! I walked down to the Pier and had lunch at Fisherman's Wharf. The restaurant itself looked pretty cool and I sat outside on the water and watched the ships. After lunch I drove across the island to Seawall Blvd. I think this is the beach everyone goes too. With it only being an hour away I would totally drive down for the day to go to the beach but I'm sure it gets way crowde

Happy Spring?

I was having trouble with what to write about today so I asked my sister for suggestions. She said why not write about spring being right around the corner? Now, the first day of spring this year is March 20. But I live in Texas. And I'm not sure we even ever really had winter. I think my heat was on for a combined total of five days this "winter." When I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do this weekend, my first thought was to do nothing. And by that I mean sit out by my complex pool in shorts and shorts sleeves and just read my book all day and maybe get some color back. But when I looked at the weather forecast and saw that it was supposed to be 60, I thought to myself - oh that's too chilly. What?!? I guess I've been in Houston long enough that I now consider anything under 67 to be cold. ugh. So I might drive over to Galveston to just wander around instead. Is there anything good to do there? If I do go, I'd like to take my big girl camera
