Here's what: July 31

It's been a long week. A family friend passed away, my 94-year-old grandfather is starting to show his age and I censored myself on this blog at the request of someone else. How was your week? Anywho...here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... I have so many postcards from all of my travels over the years and I've never know what to do with them or figured out a way I could display them. This might be a good idea. I won't have a fireplace in my new apt, but I'm sure I could find some good wall space for it. Since I first started seeing The Fresh Market offer their little big meal I've wanted to try it. They group a bunch of ingredients together and sell for $20. But I've never really liked what they put together or thought it was worth it, like when they did burgers or pizza. Until now that is. I will definitely be trying this stir fry , maybe this week but probably next. words to live by.

Weekend

I love weekends. I wish they were longer...doesn't everybody? It was quite the lazy weekend too, being that it was so hot out. I ran Sunday...kind of. It was so hot, I hadn't had enough water, or food for that matter, so I cut my run short. And then we opted to eat out instead of cooking. I really need to cook this week. And maybe not drink. Except I have half a bottle of red left over from last night's Bachelorette finale fiesta with E.  Monday. Oh Monday. Cancelled my run once again when the car told me it was 102 outside. Can't wait to be able to run in the mornings. Last night was the Bachelorette season finale so E came over for dinner and some wine. I now love sweet potatoes and I may have had a little too much to drink. And then decided it was a good time to update my iOS on my iphone. I'm still trying to get my phone back to where it should be. It made me do a complete restore, then I couldn't restore from a current backup and when I was f

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... This mirror is ah-mazing. I would love to be able to do something even remotely similar in my new place. The particular mirror is from Mecox so I am sure it is somewhere north of $5000, but I found a site called mirrorlot.com where you can build a custom mirror. And they're based in Houston. I would love to go look around there, but I don't think they have a showroom. It's National Tequila Day! Now. I haven't cooked a real dinner all week, but I live in Texas. How can I not celebrate? Finally going back to Row this afternoon. I need to mix that back into my workouts. I was doing really well when I was running and rowing consistently throughout the week.

A look back at last week

So last week my goal was to cook every day. And what did I do that first night? Went to Berryhill. But oh how I love it there. After that I was relatively good though. Tuesday night after the Local Pour run I made my new favorite chicken salad the cheater way - we bought already cooked and shredded chicken and guacamole bc there were no ripe avocados. Wednesday night there were some fights on and one of our friends was looking for a home cooked meal so I made the one dish salmon again, this time adding in two pieces of salmon pinwheels that had feta and spinach in them...amazing. Thursday night I was feeling pretty lazy...so I picked up some read-to-bake pizza from the Fresh Market and a bottle of red...which I drank in it's entirety as we watched Lawless. Oops. I know I was pretty decent with lunch too, although I can barely remember what I ate. Except for Weds when I had a lunch meeting at Dish Society . So good. I had a chicken pesto sandwich with goat cheese and a

Here's what: July 17

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... Today is my last scheduled three-day weekend for the summer. I love that my office gives us every other Friday off from May through July, I just wish it lasted longer! Who doesn't love three-day weekends? I really, really need to find my lost yur buds. Running without music is getting old. And boring. I used to have two pair. Until I broke one in DC on race morning. Now, I know I have a second pair somewhere. I just can't find them and it's driving me nuts. I should just suck it up and buy new ones...we'll see how much longer I can hold out. I might need this tshirt. It's so true. Especially when we go to Berryhill. I'll have one, maybe two drinks (granted they're in fish bowl size glasses), eat while we're there and then when I get home and sit down I'm usually like - huh, who knew? I think, maybe, I had a little too much to drink. Which is why I usually stick to one drin

Funnies

Not gonna lie, I feel like I laugh out loud at least once a week at a completely relateable ecard floating around the internets! Here are a few of my favorites...

Time to cook more...

I have been going out to eat a lot. I mean a whole lot. And while I love this, who doesn't love good food, my waistline and my wallet could probably use a break. We ate out Friday and Saturday night, sushi and mexican - two of my favorites, and I cooked last night. I really want to cook every meal this week...unless we go to Berryhill, always the exception. Last night was one of the easiest dishes ever . Two salmon filets, green beans, cherry tomatoes and broccoli. Oh and at the last minute I made some rice. All in one dish, drizzle with olive oil and bake for 20 minutes at 400. Done. So good. I obviously need to go grocery shopping to make this happen, tomorrow bc that's when I get paid. And I'm also back on the healthy-ish bandwagon. As long as I'm working out, it just needs to be reasonable. And also affordable - next month's move is starting to stress me out. So...what am I thinking about making? These two to start. I also want to have eggs for breakf

Happy Friday

Every day I've had the best intentions to update this blog, I swear. Life just gets in the way some times. And now it's Friday and this is only my second post of the week. But...I love Fridays so who cares? Works been fairly busy, I ran three times this week, will head to Row after work today, had some much-needed bellinis at Berryhill the other night, started Orange is the New Black on netflix and cooked almost every night this week. Still working on booking a trip for next month. Although all of the sudden prices and miles per flight have skyrocketed. Maybe should not have procrastinated quite so long this time. Not much on tap for this weekend either...yet. There's a track meet in Glasgow this afternoon. May lay low and watch a movie tonight. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bajillion degrees out so I think the pool is in order and then maybe happy hour at Oishi - love me some sushi. ANd I got nothing on Sunday yet except sleeping in. Lazy weekends are amazing sometime

Run Wild 5K

Friday was the Run Wild 5K. My original goal, from right after the last 5K was to run 7:45s. Ha. After little training between then and now I readjusted my goal to just to better then I did the last time. The race didn't start until 7:30am, but with limited parking and just bc I'm like that, I wanted to get there early. So I picked S up at 6:30am and off we went. He thought I was nuts when I told him that I don't warm up for these races...and now I think in the future that I will. The weather was warm, but it wasn't unbearably hot or humid yet. The race started right on time and I ran the first mile with E in around 8:48. My legs felt pretty heavy for the first mile until I got into my rhythm, which is why I think maybe warming up for these shorter races is probably a good idea. I lost her somewhere around the waterstop, made a futile effort to look for her, and then kept going. I hit mile two in 8:27 and was starting to get pretty hot. By this point I just wanted t

My current abode

Now that I'm moving in less than two months, I figured it was finally time to get an apartment tour together before I start packing! I will absolutely miss this place. I love the space, the openness of it, the huge windows along the back wall and even the fact that there are no windows in the bedroom (it makes it much easier to sleep in). But...the new place makes more sense for me right now. Details: Loft-style - about 800 sq ft Washer/dryer included  Pool and gym on property No bedroom door - I initially thought this was weird, but since I live alone it doesn't really bother me I have "decorated" a bit, but living in a loft-style place, there's so. much. space on the walls and most of my pieces aren't that big. I have multiple pieces just waiting to be hung and even more waiting to be framed. And all of my furniture was purchased on the cheap (Ikea, Ashley, etc) when I moved here bc I moved with what would fit in a Honda Civic. I would love to st

Hello July

I can not believe it is July already...where has this year gone?!? Does anyone else really feel like we're halfway through the year? I don't have too much planned for this month. But there are a few things on the radar. I am making this - Gnocchi with Squash & Sweet Corn - for dinner tonight. We have a late meeting and will miss our Tuesday night run, so E is going to come over and I'll cook for us. Friday is the fourth of July and we're running a 5K in the morning and then grilling out at night and possibly setting off our own fireworks. For the rest of the month, I hope to... try more new recipes - I really need to start cooking at least four days a week. We have been going out to eat so much, which is great and fun and I always have a good time, but let's be real. That food is not that healthy. work our 5-6 days a week - If I really am going on vacation, then I have six weeks to get my butt in gear. I had been doing really well in the workou
