Happy Friday

Yay! It's Friday. One of my three favorite days of the week. Except. Except I have a feeling I am about to start losing my weekends. I already lose a big chunk of Saturday to my long runs...bc I'm a useless lump for several hours after it's over. But now I think is the time that I will start working on the weekends. Oh goodie. There's just so much work piling up and I work so much more efficiently sitting at home watching tv. Weird, I know. But it is so true. I can pump out a one-page article in 30 mins, sitting at home watching a Scandal rerun. But when I try to do it in the office, it just takes a little, ok a lot, longer. But with the new apartment setup (home tour coming soon), I can't really work from my dining room table any more. I mean I could, but it's further away from the tv. So I stopped by ikea at lunch the other day and picked up a desk. White with pink legs. For $22. The list of things I want to work on this weekend is ridiculous. Media

Here's what: September 26

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... After my blowout at drybar this past weekend, I really, really want this hair dryer. But whoa, it's expensive. I believe it's $189 on their site, but $169 on QVC and you get the clips if you order from QVC too. Decisions decisions. Two hour Grey's Anatomy season premiere. tonight. I know what I'll be doing. I finally replaced my stolen iPod. Now I will be able to listen to some tunes on my long runs. And maybe use the nike+ tracker. Even though I have the watch.

(T)winning weekend recap

I love long weekends. Especially when somebody comes to visit. I don't get out much, so when somebody comes into town it's my excuse to go out and have fun! The weather was pretty crappy Friday and Saturday. There was so. much. rain. on Friday that I thought my run would be canceled. But it wasn't. It was mainly misty and overcast on Saturday. All twin had wanted to do was sit by the pool on Saturday and we couldn't. It had barely rained in the past few months and then she comes in to town and bam. Monsoon. If you ever come to visit me, we have to go to Max's Wine Dive for brunch. Amazing. I had eggs benedict and mimosas. We were sitting right by the huge batch of mimosas they make. Unfortunately, they no longer offer bottomless. Boo. All the mimosas. Lets face it. It's almost always all about the food. So later on Saturday we stopped by Pinkberry for a snack. So what if it was 6pm and we hadn't had dinner yet? When I asked twin where she w

Double digits

I'll get to my weekend recap tomorrow, but first my long run recap. Saturday's run was scheduled to be 10 miles. Our first double digit run in this marathon training program. And, once again, we were running with the 4:30 pace group. After all the rain on Friday night, it was pretty nice out Saturday morning. I was afraid/hopeful that it would still be monsooning and I would have an excuse to stay in bed, but the rain cleared up and the weather was relatively cool. For Houston. And. I finally got myself a hand-held water bottle. I bought the 10.5 ounce version of the amphipod. It was definitely weird to run with and I'll have to get used to it but it wasn't horrible. My elbow was pretty stiff when I was done though. The run itself was. I don't know. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad. It just was. I ran probably about half of it alone just for a change of pace. I think if I'm going to run alone more though, then I need to replace my ipod. The new ad

Cheers to the weekend!

It's almost here! Leaving the office at 3pm today...

Here's what: September 19

Is this week over yet? It seems to be extra long. Anywho...here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week. I know, I know. You're shocked. Her again. But the twin gets here tomorrow! Time for some fun. In an effort to cut down on the amount of chafing during my runs, I picked up this little beauty at adidas yesterday. Women's Health Mag says it's the best one out there for high impact for someone my size. Here's hoping it treats me well on my 10 miler this Saturday. I finally pulled the trigger. Theoretically, I will soon be learning French! Somebody make sure I stay on top of this.

Two more days

Twin gets here in two days! And obviously I'm not ready. But come on, do I really have to make the apartment spotless and have a fridge stocked full of her favorite foods? I mean, it would make me the best sister ever. But it's an awful lot of effort.  I'm working on it. We'll see what I can get done today. Maybe a quick grocery run before my run tonight. Since it's still 1000 degrees outside. And I received my last box of goodies from my frantic online shopping spree trying to find a good outfit for Sunday. A little insane? Yes. But most of it will be going back. So there's that.

Random Tuesday rambles

Love this cartoon that somebody emailed me this morning. It's mid-September and I wish I could say it fell like fall in Houston. My facebook and twitter feeds are full of friends talking about needing sweatshirts and more layers bc it's cold outside. But here in Houston I spent Sunday at the pool and today's high is supposed to be 93. Sigh. I still need a dress for Fran and Steph's wedding and I think this one is amazing. I saw it on Rent the Runway . But I think if I'm going to have to give it back, maybe I don't want to spend $150 on a rental. BUT it is ah-mazing and normally retails for $1000. It's Track Tuesday. I don't know what today's workout is, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it. I'm not dreading it, but I'm not excited either. I should not have skipped yesterday's run. Whoa.  Rosetta Stone is on sale again. For a ridiculous price. I have been eyeing this for some time. Is it finally time to p

Weekend recap

This is going to be a boring one. Not much happened this weekend. I spent Friday night thinking about Saturday morning's run. I wasn't necessarily worried, but I didn't really feel like running 9 miles either. I honestly don't even really remember what I did when I got home. That's bad right? It was only a few days ago. I know I made dinner. Shredded chicken and cheese on tostadas. The alarm went off so early Saturday morning. E text me to remind me to put glide on my blisters. If only it had helped. We met up just before 6:30am, we were moving up to the 4:30 marathon group this week. The scheduled run was an out and back 9 miles, from Memorial Park to Sabine and back. We left with the group right around 6:30 and kept with the middle of the pack for the whole way. It was good to stay with people to pace ourselves. Last week when we were with the 5:00 group, there was nobody with us on the run. Now it wasn't like running at 5pm or anything, but it was h

ONE WEEK

Deb arrives in one week. So much do to - finish unpacking, clean (again), go food shopping... And plan - Friday night, Saturday (I have a long run in the am), Sunday and Monday morning. Decisions, decisions.

Handheld water bottles

Now that I'm training for a marathon (calm down, I didn't say I had actually signed up for a marathon), there will be some pretty long runs in my future. And with the heat in Houston I think it's time for me to purchase a handheld water bottle. I have never, ever wanted one before. I see people running with Camelbaks or belts with water bottles on them and I cringe. It just seems so uncomfortable. E bought one a few weeks ago and has had it for two long runs now. It took her a hot minute to get used to it, but I think she's def happy to have it on our Saturday morning runs when it is hot and humid. So...which one do I buy? Nathan Sprint Handheld Bottle Carrier The compact 10-ounce Nathan Quickview Handheld Bottle ($35) is perfect if you'd rather carry all your gear than wear it. The push-pull valve ensures easy use, while the clear smartphone carrier allows you to change music with ease. An earphone port helps prevent tangles. Hydrapak Gel-B

Here's what: September 12

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... Tonight is the Burn Notice series finale. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself when it's all over. I absolutely love this show. Ok, not as much as Scandal, but come on. There's not much I like more than Scandal. Anywho. It's been seven years and I loved the way they progressed this show each season. I recently re-watched the entire series on Netflix (hello, I have no life) and I just don't want it to end! I'm excited about the new program we're launching at work. It's not often I talk specifically about where I work...but I'm pretty proud of this. Today we announced an Ambassador Program for the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon. I'm really interested to see how many people apply. In the first year, we're just looking for 10 people, probably locals, to help get the word out and promote the races. Ok. This is probably cheating. Dani

Random thoughts

I was trying to decided whether to even blog today. I was too busy to post yesterday and I didn't want to go two days in a row with nothing...but is it better to say nothing at all today? I don't want to be insensitive, but at the same time it has been 12 years. I know the pain for some people will never go away, but for others it fades over time. I was in school in South Carolina that day 12 years ago. My roommate's dad was in New York on business though and I remember the hours and hours she and her family spent waiting to hear from him. Cell service was so bad that they did not find out until that night that he was ok. So while I will never forget and always take time out to remember those who perished on September 11, I think that it's ok for me to post what I want. Last night was Track Tuesday. Looking at the workout, I didn't think it was going to be that bad. 200, 400, 600, 800, 600, 400, 200 with rest varying from a jog back to the start to 2 min

Weekend recap

Why do the weekends always feel so short to me? It was a good one, even if I didn't do very much. Friday night. I was just going to go home and lay around as we had a long run scheduled for 6:15am Saturday. But. But it hadn't been a great day. So after I got home and sat around for a bit, I decided it was time to go shopping. Now, originally I was going to post pictures of everything I buy and tell you what it all is. And then sense kicked in. The only reason I am going shopping is bc somebody broke into my place. So maybe its not such a good idea to flaunt these things. Suffice it to say, I went to the Galleria and had quite a good time. Saturday's alarm came way too soon. So I dragged myself out of bed and drove to the park. It amazes me how crowded this place is at 6am. The sun wasn't even up. E and I are still running with the 5 hour group. But this was probably the last time for that. We kept speeding up just to get away from them. I'm not going to say the

Always

Happy Friday! It's going to be a good weekend! There's a mani/pedi on deck, an 8 mile run in the morning and some shopping to take care of. Have a great weekend!

Here's what: September 5

Here's what three things I'm obsessed with this week... State Farm has finally FINALLY settled my claim and now it is time to go shopping! I've got the list of everything that was stolen and now I have to decide what I am going to replace. Bc there's a catch. There's always a catch. Most of the items taken were a little older, so State Farm is giving me the depreciated value for them. Until I replace, and then they will give me the difference. I understand where they're coming from, making sure people aren't playing the system to get more money or whatever, it's just a little annoying. There's much less storage space in my new apartment, both in the kitchen and just in general. So I just bought this wire shelf thing from target. Now I need a few cool items to help "style" it. I don't want it to be too boring. I've got the white dishes, a few pink/blush bowls and a gold tray. Must decide what else it needs. Now that I&#
