Now that I'm training for a marathon (calm down, I didn't say I had actually signed up for a marathon), there will be some pretty long runs in my future. And with the heat in Houston I think it's time for me to purchase a handheld water bottle.
I have never, ever wanted one before. I see people running with Camelbaks or belts with water bottles on them and I cringe. It just seems so uncomfortable.
E bought one a few weeks ago and has had it for two long runs now. It took her a hot minute to get used to it, but I think she's def happy to have it on our Saturday morning runs when it is hot and humid.
So...which one do I buy?
Nathan Sprint Handheld Bottle Carrier
The compact 10-ounce
Nathan Quickview Handheld Bottle
($35) is perfect if you'd rather carry all your gear than wear it. The
push-pull valve ensures easy use, while the clear smartphone carrier
allows you to change music with ease. An earphone port helps prevent
tangles.
Hydrapak Gel-Bot
Distance running requires the proper balance of hydration and fuel — and the
Hydrapak Gel-Bot
($15 for 24 ounces) can help. The bottle fits easily in one hand and
feature a top compartment where you can add up to 3.2 ounces of energy
gel. Squeeze the bottle to dispense fuel when you need it, and then pull
the nozzle up to drink water as normal. If 24 ounces is too much, then
try the 20-ounce bottle ($13).
Nike Handheld Running Bottle
You can store exactly what you need in the ergonomic strap on the
Nike Handheld Running Water Bottle ($17); when thirst hits, all it takes is a squeeze to get the hydration you need.
Amphipod Handheld Thermal-Lite
The 12-ounce
Amphipod Handheld Thermal-Lite
($22) is a smaller version of their classic handheld, so it's another
one to take along for a shorter run. The insulation around the bottle
keeps liquids cold or hot and the zippered pouch holds your iPod, phone,
gel packs or other small necessities.
I think I want one with a strap, which means the Hydrapak is out. The Nathan one is a good concept, but I think the pouch on it is maybe too big. So. Nike or Amphipod. Almost all of my running gear is Nike. But. I think the amphipod might be m ore what I'm looking for. I don't need a lot of water and I like the insulation around the bottle. Now to find one.
