It's Wednesday already? How did that happen? Whoops.
So last Friday I drove up to Austin with K in advance of the Austin Half Marathon. We had an industry event to attend and then we were having dinner with friends. Something to keep in mind - tomatillo sauce in mexican restaurants is not the same thing as tomatillo sauce at Chuy's. I did not like my dinner.
Saturday a few more friends came up and we went to EXPO, picked up our packets and shopped a bit. Bc I really needed that long sleeve nike top. The we took a tour of the finish line so that K could look at some new fencing. Best part of Saturday? Finding a Noodles and Company in Austin. Love that place and convinced everyone that that was where we should have lunch.
Sunday morning. The Austin Half Marathon. Well. It wasn't great. I'd been having some issues with my left ankle. Off and on it would just hurt. Really bad, out of the blue. No idea what the problem is. Anyway, it hurt on the walk to the start. And it hurt worse once I started running on it. I legit almost stopped in the first 25 meters of the race.
But I didn't. I made myself keep going. And eventually the pain went away. But it was replaced by the pain of not being ready. Of only going on a handful of training runs in three weeks and not having run in the three months before that. I will never run a half with so little training before hand. I (barely) got away with it last year when it was cold out and this year, with the heat and humidity, I had nothing to fall back on. And let's not forget those hills. It was a killer. And the slowest I have ever run a half marathon.
Now I'm trying to jump right into my training for the Nike Women's Half in DC at the end of April. I'm supposed to run five miles today. I think I can do it. I need to do it. I need to not be so out of shape anymore.
Anyway, after the race on Sunday was my favorite part of the Austin Half Marathon - the VIP breakfast. Mimosas, eggs benedict, breakfast tacos, french toast - amazing. After we drove home that afternoon, I promptly took an almost three hour nap. Woke up, had a snack, watched some Olympics and went back to bed.
And I took Monday off. To sleep in. So imagine my annoyance when people started texting me at 8am! But it reminded me to turn on the TV and watch some more Olympics. It was a very lazy day. That ended with a sushi dinner. Love me some sushi, but the owner of the place was crazy! Weirdest sushi experience ever.
Back to work I went on Tuesday, but I did get a run in after work, even if it only was three miles. Got to start back somewhere. Oh...and I might have went on a date last night. I had a great time. Now let's see how long it will take one of my family members to see this and call me for details.
